Method Statement Template

A method statement template is basically a document which guides the construction crew or the team members of any project about how they have to proceed with the project. It elaborates in detail how a management can apply full control over the business through easy-to-follow steps and necessary cautions they need to adopt. The method statement is used for the safety purposes of the team members or anyone involved in the project and to assign them to their respective duties. Moreover, it ensures that every aspect of the project is being dealt by people who are specialized or have experienced in that field. A method statement is used to supervise the crew and make sure that the members are taking safety measures and following the duties assigned to them.

Importance of Method Statement:

The method statement is mainly focused on the safety measures and precautions of the team members. It is clear that these statements are implemented in those workplaces where there are possible threats. Basically, the method statement is for any project where there will be use of any big machinery or tools that could cause any harm to the user. Moreover, it is made alongside a risk statement which defines all the possible risks that could arise during the project. Whereas, this statement elaborates how to mitigate those risk elements.

What to Include in a Method Statement?

The method statement is used by different businesses and organizations to handle their projects. For that purpose, they used tools like deep analysis on their assets. Being an effective tool, it is being used in the projects to make sure all things goes accordingly to their planning. Once this statement is prepared and approved, it is forwarded to authorized employees or managers of the project. This is because it is their responsibility to make sure the project is being followed by the approved method statement. There are a few components of a valid method statement which are given below:

Definition: the statement begins with the description of the project. It gives a general outlook on the project such as name of project, activity, name of company whose project it is, the supervisor of the crew, start date, possible end date and working hours per day.

Dividing the crew: this list includes all the people that are given the responsibility of keeping specific departments of the crew under their watch. It also includes information about the crew (number of workers, laborers, engineers and machinery users).

Possible threats and precautions: Finally, the possible risks that could arise during the construction are mentioned along with the necessary caution the crew needs to adopt in order to avoid those dangers. For this purpose, each individual of the construction crew is assigned a specific job according to their level of expertise. It is the responsibility of the supervisor to make sure the crew is doing their own work.
