Competency Assessment Template

The competency assessment template is said to be a system of measuring and documenting personnel competency. The goal of this assessment is to find problems with employees’ performance and to correct them before it affects patients’ care. In other words, competency assessment is the assessment of checking someone’s capability against the requirements of their work. This assessment is performed on tasks on which a rating is given based upon how they perform the task. The employee’s selected proficiency level is compared with the target level. It is done to find the quantity and size of the skill gaps in your organization, just knowing that you have them isn’t enough. It is also important to know how large and widespread they are.

Advantages of conducting a Competency Assessment:

Your top priority should always be to keep an eye on how your employees are keeping up with any potential skill gaps that could be a problem in the future. There are many advantages to introducing competency assessment into your organization.

1- Estimating the size of skill gaps:

It’s unlikely to miss the big skill gaps in business, but mostly organizations are unaware of the actual size and quantity of all the skill gaps that exist in their workspace. They know they have them but don’t know how big they are. Competency assessment can help in recognizing the missing areas and help you understand your organizational capability.

2- Notifying future actions:

After recognizing which individual has the required skills and which doesn’t help you in the individual learning and development program of the employees. Competency assessment helps you create a strategy by which you can plan the actions to be taken in future to close those lacking gaps.

3- Managing consistent improvement:

To find the actual performance, it requires more than one assessment. Especially in these times, organizational changes are appearing at a very fast speed. Sometimes, by the time an employee’s skills are upgraded, some of their new learned skills are already out of date. So, to find out the capability of your employees depends on a cycle of assessment, ongoing development and to conduct the assessment on those tasks and skills that you already have worked on. By following this step, you can drive real growth within your organization.

How to get started with the Competency Assessment?

The following three elements are required to start a competency assessment:

1- Personalized form of learning to make individuals skill action plans.

2- A proper competency model for those to assess.

3- A system to facilitate privacy, scale and capability analysis.

The above-mentioned system is important because old methods, such as spreadsheets that are sent around, lack a lot of privacy. And the volume of the data will be considerable. You need to create a system that can create data visualization without much manual effort. This helps you create transparency between your employees. The point is to identify and improve their mistakes and not to announce them publicly. Privacy makes the employees understand where they are lacking and how they can improve themselves.
