Co-Parenting Agreement Template

A co-parenting agreement template is a professional agreement which is signed between two parents who are no longer living together but have a child or children together. This agreement basically states how the parents will manage to raise the kids together without living in the same residence. The co-parenting agreement sets basic ground rules and responsibilities for both parents. This contract is carried out until the child or children turn 18 and no longer need a legal guardian. In this agreement, both the parents have to take on certain responsibilities to ensure that the child or children don’t feel like they are being raised by a single parent.

Purpose of Co-Parenting Agreement

The main purpose of co-parenting agreement is to ensure the perfect childhood of the kids. A co-parenting agreement template is usually manufactured by a lawyer or in the presence of a lawyer. If the lawyer on behalf of the party writes the agreement, then the other party needs a lawyer to review it. This is done to make sure that none of the duties given to each parent are unfair. Additionally, since it is a legal document, it is better to get it manufactured and even signed in the presence of an attorney or lawyer.

Content of Co-Parenting Agreement

A co-parenting agreement basically starts off with the introduction to both parties and then the introduction of the kids. Later on, the recitals on which both the parents have to mutually agree are listed down. Some of the main elements to include in a co-parenting agreement are written below:

1- The date on which the co-parenting agreement will be made effective.

2- The introduction to both parties. Their name, contact information, and current address.

3- Individual introduction to each child, including their name, age, and the parent with whom they live currently.

4- The terms on which the parties have to agree are properly listed. Some of the common terms are with which parent the kids will live with on weekdays (this is usually based off on the parent that has the child-custody); the, the parent who will be responsible for the weekend stay overs and holidays; which parent will afford their daily, educational, and medical expenses.

5- What will be the result, if any of the parent does not agree to the terms right now but does not fulfill his duties later on.

6- Lastly, it is crucial to mention the confidential information; this means which parts of this agreement can be disclosed to the public and the children.

Significance of Co-Parenting Agreement

A co-parenting agreement template is important for conducting written agreements because it helps the parents to become aware of their respective responsibilities and also have a general idea of what the other partner is supposed to do. Everyone is aware of the fact that once a couple is separated they no longer want to be in the presence of one another. However, since they are bound to meet each other because of their children, there are possibilities of arguments or disputes arising. Hence, the agreement predicts such situations and clearly mentions how such situations will be handled in the future.
